Coffee Shortage in Venezuela

I know, that's not a headline that screams out to most people "Man, I gotta check this one out." But it's still important. These people sell us something like 30% of our oil.
An attempt by Venezuela's leftwing president, Hugo Chávez, to double the price that coffee producers pay farmers for a sack of beans has led to empty shelves in supermarkets throughout the country and fears of shortages of other basic foodstuffs.
Proving once again the old adage: If socialists take over the Sahara, there will soon be a shortage of sand.
