The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You

Three cheers for Texas!

Jeez, that felt even weirder typing than I thought it would.

As it happened, I ended up pulling for the Horns. Although the hatred was never more than an inch or so below the surface. It would bubble up occasionally, when they made some bone-headed play, or missed a field goal. If they'd lost the game, I would be pissed. After all, I'd have spent four hours supressing those feelings, pulling for those jerks, only to be let down in the end.

Well, maybe not. When they were down 12 points with minutes left to play, I became a fatalistic about it. If they lost, it couldn't happen to a more deserving group of people.

But in the end, they pulled it off. Wow, what a game that was! Talking with my dad as the final seconds ticked off, his opinion was that that's probably the best game he's ever seen. Better even than the '71 OU/Nebraska game. (Although if OU had won that game, he might have a different opinion.)

Well, if there's one other thing I got from the game, other than four hours of entertainment, it was delight at the fact that I no longer live in Texas. I'm highly misanthropistic these days, but as the camera scanned the UT fans, I was reminded of how little I like Texans. If I somehow decide to develop a serious love of my fellow man, I should make sure I'm as far away from those people as possible.

But, for now, celebrate, you Texans! Revel in your overtanned fakeness! Do it Texas stle: drink a bottle of tequila and bury your face in a pile of cocaine!

But just remember: the Sooners are coming for you.
